This recipe is an old family recipe handed down several generations, originating in the mountains of Slovenia and ending up here is Michigan. It is a tasty alternative to the bread stuffings so often used today. Try it and see!
1 lb. Pork Sausage, mild or sage flavored
1 lb. Ground Beef
5 slices of stale bread (any kind will do)
1/2 cup Milk
1 Small Onion, diced
Soak the stale bread in the milk until most of the milk has been absorbed. Mix the sausage, ground beef, bread, eggs and onion together as if you were making a meat loaf. Thoroughly rinse the turkey cavities out with cold water and then "stuff" the mixture in the cavities, loosely. Continue by following your favorite recipe for stuffed turkey. If there is any left-over meat, you can cook it in a casserole separately.
